How do you get tasteful wedding photos?

While personal tastes may vary, no serious-minded couple would ever want their wedding to look intentionally tacky. And that’s the last thing I want for your photos of the day. 

So, what’s the secret to getting tasteful wedding photos? It’s simple, really. Choose someone – like me – who focuses on creating tasteful photos.

Here’s how I do it.

My goal is to deliver fine-art inspired wedding photographs that you will be proud to show all your friends and family for many years to come. So before I even pick up my camera, I think about the following points when working out where to place you and what I ask you to do.

What is the most attrractive available background?

This might be a lawn with flowering borders, an archway or even a rustic bridge, like this one at Kimbridge Barn:

Where is the light coming from?

My daytime style of tasteful wedding photography is all about soft light that flatters your skin tones. Slightly overcast days are actually good from my point of view! When the sun is out, I often ask you to stand at an angle to the sun, so that the light filtering through your hair creates a pleasing halo effect. It also means you don’t need to squint.

What feels most natural to you?

Once I’ve taken a couple of quick photos of the two of you looking at the camera, I encourage you to look at each other as much as possible while embracing or simply holding hands. Even the most camera-shy person quickly forgets about my camera once they aren’t looking down its lens!

I try to ensure everyone is visible, looking at the camera and smiling.

Post-production

After your wedding, I edit your photos in a fine-art, light and airy style, inspired by masters of the past like Canaletto and Monet. This gives your photos a dreamy quality and is flattering to skin tones.
